Icosmo Clock
The Matrix in Time
The Icosmo Clock shows the present moment through the Icosmo Matrix: a 24-hour clock whose hours carry their colour, their musical key and their chakra correspondence, and whose sky – the Sun, the Moon, the planets and the zodiac – stands where it truly is above your place.
The hands show the time of your clock. The sky shows the time of the Sun. Together they make visible what an ordinary clock hides: how far the clock time of your place lies from the true solar time.
The same clock runs on the Icosmo homepage, in the Icosmo Matrix Synth and in the Icosmo Clock app for macOS. The Icosmo Sky Clock turns the whole sky into the clock.
Reading the Clock

The Icosmo Clock runs through all 24 hours of the day on one dial. Midnight is at the bottom, 6 o’clock on the left (sunrise), noon at the top and 18 o’clock on the right (sunset). Hours, minutes and seconds run clockwise.
Hours and Colours:
The outer ring carries the hours 0 to 23, each in its colour of the Icosmo Matrix: from Red at sunrise through Green at noon to Red-Violet at sunset, and back through the night. The current hour is marked by a wedge in its colour, and the hour hand shows the clock time in the colour of the hour.
Minutes and Seconds:
The minute and second hands run over the inner scale. They take the colour of the hour segment they point at, one segment every 2.5 minutes or 2.5 seconds.
Keys:
The key ring shows the key of every hour in its colour: F# at 5 and 6 o’clock in the morning, C at noon, F at 17 and 18 o’clock, and back again through the night.
The Centre:
The date, the time and the sign of the Sun, and between them the seven chakras. The chakras of the current hour are lit: on the exact colour of a chakra only this chakra, between two chakra colours both neighbours.
Clock Time and the True Sun

The hands follow civil time: the time zone and, in summer, daylight saving time. The Sun follows the sky. The astro layer of the clock – the zodiac, the Sun, the Moon and the planets – is turned like the real sky, with the Midheaven (MC), the meridian of your place, at the top. It turns once a day with the sky.
The Sun therefore stands on the outer ring at the true solar time of your place: exactly at the top at true noon. It glows in the colour of its true solar hour. True solar time is calculated from the Sun’s hour angle and differs from clock time by three things:
- the position of your place within its time zone (4 minutes for every degree of longitude),
- daylight saving time (one hour in summer),
- the equation of time, the seasonal deviation of the true Sun from the mean Sun (up to about 16 minutes).
Example: in Chania, Crete, on 22 October at 16:18 clock time, the Sun stands at about 15:10 true solar time – more than an hour earlier than the clock.
The Sky in the Clock
- The planets stand at their real positions, calculated for this minute. The ecliptic longitudes run counter-clockwise, against the hours, as in an astrological chart.
- The Moon is shown with the picture of its current phase.
- The angles: with your location, the clock also shows the Ascendant (AC), the Imum Coeli (IC), the Descendant (DC) and the Midheaven (MC) of your place.
- Without a location, the meridian of your time zone stands in for your place, so the sky is close to the real one.
Why the Day Begins at Sunrise
The common division of days is midnight, but midnight cannot be observed. Sunrise and sunset are the two turning points of the day that anyone can see. The Icosmo Matrix therefore lets the visible spectrum begin at sunrise: Red, the long-wave end of the spectrum and the light octave of the key F#, opens the day. By day the colours and keys rise through Green and C at noon to Red-Violet and F at sunset; by night they mirror back to Red. Every key appears once by day and once by night.
The 24 hours with their keys, colours, chakra correspondences and the human circadian rhythm are listed on the page of the Icosmo Matrix.
Where the Clock Runs
- On this website – on this page, on the homepage and in the tools that show a moment.
- Icosmo Sky Clock – the real sky of the moment as the clock, with the sea, the planets on the ecliptic and the local weather: open the Sky Clock.
- Icosmo Matrix Synth – the clock in the Utility row, together with the keys of the hour, the minute and the second.
- Icosmo Clock for macOS – the clock floats frameless on the desktop, with a backlight in the colours of the hour, the minute and the second tone, a sky view and a widget.
